Antarctica  Winter 2013/14

Welcome to Antarctica
We all had to march…..
…even the penguins.
The pack ice breaks up in the spring...
...but the Lemaire Passage is blocked….
..and icebergs are 85% under the water line.
Captain Alexi pilots the ship through the ice field like playing a video game...
…as we traverse the open seas towards the Antarctic Circle.
Playing "Titanic" as we cross the Antarctic Circle (66' 33" S)
Named "Una's T*ts" in the 1950s (after a shopkeeper in the Falklands), now PC'ed to Una's Peaks
First Stop: Paulet Island….
....overnight to Detaille Island.
A visit to British Antarctic Survey "Station W"
Only manned from 1956 to 1959...
...but they left food for us.....
....yum, yum !!!
Next stop: Peterman Island
...to find a family of Weddel Seals
A visit to Pleneau Island...
…where the Penguins watch us also.
No one ever tires of Penguins !
Vernadsky Station can be quite lonely….
...and the claustrophobic walls….
…are better after a visit to the World's most Southern Bar.
A toast to the Ukrainian crew….
No Pepsi.....only Vodka !!
Let's do a little shopping…..
…and mail a letter home.
We all took the Polar Plunge: 34 degrees only nips for a second.
Here are some Hi Def pictures for you….
We will soon travel through the Neumayer passage...
Preparing to Kayak…..
This is a real "E-ticket" ride (look it up).
Need some more adventure….
….let's go camping overnight.
Historic British Base Port Lockroy…..
The men worked hard by day….
…and dreamed hard on those cold nights.
Leaving Deception Island….
Over 100,000 nesting Penguins
On top of the Southernmost "active" volcano
Celebrating New Years 2014 aboard the Sea Adventurer
Saying goodbye to Antarctica….
